The Nigerian Tennis
Foundation (NTF) is a charitable, not-for-profit, service organization. The Foundation offers tennis and educational
programs including tennis lessons, coaching and training to youths ages 6 and18, who are economically, socially and educationally
disadvantaged in Nigeria and elsewhere. The foundation will also act as an advocate for tennis and sports development
in Nigeria.
The Foundation will offer after-
school and weekend programs to students. The after-school programs and activities, including summer programs will be conducted
in public parks and national training centers. The Foundation has a local, regional and global agenda.
Our History
In July 2005, more than 60 former Nigerian tennis players and friends of Tennis
Nigeria gathered in Houston, TX to discuss the state of tennis in Nigeria. The reunion was intense and emotional. After
all the excitements and bickering, the purpose of our being was made clear. We agreed that something must be done
to revive tennis in Nigeria. We also agreed that something must be done to improve our well-being and welfare in America.
We also decided that we should start a not-for-profit organization. The organization
will accomplish several objectives:
(1) To safeguard the interest and welfare of all its members.
(2) To develop a strategic plan for tennis improvement.
(3) To promote and grow the game of tennis in our local communities,
(4) To raise money to develop, promote, and grow the game of tennis in Nigeria, and
(5) To work closely with the Nigerian Tennis Federation and other sports and educational
institutions and agencies to accomplish our goals and objectives.
We have identified challenges
that we must overcome if we want to be successful:
(1) raising adequate financial
capital,
(2) developing coaches and
trainers,
(3) scouting young talented
players from the 36 states,
(4) junior, senior, wheelchair competitions,
(5) coordinating and aligning
of all tennis activities and programs,
(6) commitment and support
from the Nigerian Tennis Federation and the state tennis associations,
(7) full commitment from our promising young players.
We strongly believe that with
our collective will and determination, we will overcome the above challenges.
In July 2008, the Nigerian Tennis Foundation was incorporated
in the state of Florida. The founding members include: Dr. Sadiq Abdullahi,
William Ogene, Rolake Olagbegi-Kassim, Femi David-Yerumo, Dr. Maryann Amina, Murtala Habu, Dr. Ernest Ndukwe, Nduka Odizor,
Phillip Nwajei, Sunday Ogundele and David Imonitie.
In 2010, NTF is calling all tennis lovers and friends of TennisNigeria everywhere
to action!
